PondBase helps you record, visualize, and analyze pond and fish data. Your privacy matters. By using PondBase, you agree to the practices described here.

Data We Collect

1) Information you provide

  • Account (optional): Name and email if you contact support or sign in for features that use your identity.
  • Pond & Fish Content: Pond names, GPS coordinates you choose to store, pond zones, tagged fish records (species, length, weight, tag number), catch dates, notes, and photos you attach.
  • Map Annotations: Lines, text labels, and placemark icons you add.

2) Purchases & identifiers

  • Subscriptions (RevenueCat / App Store): App-specific user ID, purchase receipts, and device/app metadata required to validate entitlements and manage subscriptions.

3) Usage & diagnostics

  • Analytics (TelemetryDeck): Privacy-friendly product interaction events (e.g., screen views, feature usage). We do not send your personal content in analytics.
  • Crash/Performance Logs: Automatic diagnostics to help find and fix issues.

4) Photos

  • PhotosPicker: You explicitly choose images to attach. We do not scan your photo library.

5) Location

  • Device Location: PondBase does not collect or store your device’s precise location. If you grant location permission, it’s used on-device to show your position on the map.
  • Pond Coordinates: Coordinates you select for a pond are stored as part of your content.

Where Your Data Lives (CloudKit & Local Storage)

  • On-device: Your content is stored locally in the app’s database.
  • iCloud / CloudKit (optional): If you enable iCloud, your data syncs to your personal iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit. Apple stores iCloud data encrypted in transit and at rest. By default, your private iCloud data isn’t visible to us.
  • Sharing: If you share a pond (CloudKit sharing), invited participants can access the shared items you choose to share.

How We Use Your Data

  • App functionality: Store, display, and organize your records, charts, and maps.
  • Sync/Backup: Keep data available across devices via iCloud (if enabled).
  • Weather: When you request weather for a selected pond, its coordinates are sent to a weather provider to fetch a forecast.
  • Purchases: Validate and manage subscriptions (RevenueCat / App Store).
  • Analytics & diagnostics: Understand feature usage and improve stability and performance.
  • Notifications: Schedule and deliver local iOS notifications for reminders you set.

Third Parties We Use

  • Apple iCloud / CloudKit: Sync and storage linked to your Apple ID.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription management and entitlement validation.
  • TelemetryDeck: Privacy-friendly analytics (no personal content).
  • Weather Provider (e.g., OpenWeather): Receives pond coordinates you select to return forecasts.

We do not use third-party advertising SDKs.

Sharing, Selling, and Advertising

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share data for cross-app advertising or third-party targeted ads.
  • We may disclose information if required by law, to comply with legal process, or to protect rights and safety.
  • In a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, data may transfer; we will notify users of material changes as required by law.

Data Retention & Deletion

  • Your content remains on your devices and in iCloud (if enabled) until you delete it.
  • You can delete items individually in the app.
  • To delete iCloud data for PondBase: iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Apps Using iCloud → PondBase → Delete Data.
  • Deleting the app does not automatically delete iCloud data; remove it via Settings as above.
  • You may also contact us for deletion assistance.

Your Choices & Rights

  • Access/Correction/Deletion: Manage your content in the app; contact us if you need help.
  • iCloud: Toggle PondBase iCloud sync in Settings.
  • Analytics: You can disable “Share iPhone Analytics” at the system level if desired.
  • Notifications: Manage permissions in Settings → Notifications → PondBase.

International Notices (GDPR/UK & California)

GDPR/UK: Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, or object to processing. Legal bases include: performance of a contract (providing the app), legitimate interests (improving/app functionality), and consent (e.g., notifications). To exercise rights, contact us using the details below. We may request identity verification.

California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell personal information. You may request to know categories of personal information we collect and request deletion, subject to applicable exceptions.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (e.g., transport encryption) to protect data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Keep your device and iCloud account protected (passcode and two-factor authentication).

Children’s Privacy

PondBase is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, please contact us to request deletion.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post updates in the app and/or on our website with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated as required by law.

App Privacy Summary (for App Store Connect)

Data Collected

  • Linked to You: Purchases (subscription status/receipts via RevenueCat/App Store); Identifiers (app-specific user/device identifiers for entitlement management); Usage Data (product interaction analytics).
  • Not Linked to You: Diagnostics (crash and performance data).

Purposes: App Functionality, Analytics, and Account/Subscription Management.

Not Collected: Contacts, Health, Financial (payment cards), Sensitive data, and Precise Device Location.

Tracking: No cross-app tracking; no third-party advertising.
